SYNOPSIS
Three indigenous children, orphaned by the forced displacement of their communities, must reconnect with their protective ancestors, the forest and their roots, to survive in this world full of injustice.
SINOPSIS
Three children from three different indigenous groups of Honduras – Massay, a Garífuna girl; Agustín, a Lenca boy; and Cipriano, a Tolupán boy – meet in an orphanage in Tegucigalpa after being victims of forced displacement from their respective communities and tragically losing their families. In this new home, these three children must fight to preserve their roots and their freedom. They do so by maintaining close contact with their ancestors, spirits, and mythical beings from their cultures. Despite this, they cannot completely escape the violence and adult abuse.
When coexistence here becomes intolerable, these three children are forced to start a revolt, a revolution. They take control and escape from this place and the cruel Tegucigalpa. This is how all the orphans end up fleeing the city and getting lost in the ancestral nature of Honduras to build a community of children, far from that world of adults that constantly tries to destroy dreams, their essences, and their innocence.
MOTIVATION
Honduras is a country that loses its children, that abandons them; It is a territory with a strong smell of orphanhood. In it, we often feel unprotected, like adrift, with no one in control of this country ship and make us feel that we are not going to shipwreck. Unfortunately, our society and our government constantly help the environment to persist that feeling of being about to capsize. This makes us always be on the defensive, in a sick state of vigilance and paranoia that ends up reinforcing the strong root of violence of our idiosyncrasy. LOST CHILDREN talks about all this, seen from the perspective of three orphans who must tirelessly fight to survive in a cruel, decadent and sick system in which they are the most vulnerable people. Ultimately, this is a story about how Honduras fails its children and condemns its own future with this.
